Oscar friends

yeah , once again, i know it was stupid!! i should have researched. just my tank was ready and these are my first fish, and i made the mistake of trusting walmarts advice. i will extensively look into any other introductions before buying... but just so i know .... what are prices for fish in your local areas because for some reason i feel i'm getting a little too high prices and it sucks!!! lol !! o well i still think there worth it. i read in another fourm that you could get a 10gal tank at lfs for about $10. is this true ?? cause i paid $40ish for mine...(keep in mind $CND) but it's still like $30 US. my oscar was close to $7 and my irodescent was close to $5.. (once again $CND) any where that i can get better prices? and i would feel alot better buying from a better quality store than the walmart fish department..........

A 10 gal tank costs $8.95 at the LPS but this is just the tank... no filter, hood, lights etc...
So if you bought a "kit" for $40 you did OK. You can use it for a hospital tank later. Today I was at a Wal mart and they had oscars for $9.98 USD and their irridescent shark label said 12" max. I forget their price for the shark.

10G tanks are $10CND  just the tank, not with filters or anything, keep in mind how big the oscar will get, i fyou dont upgrade soon, it's growth is gonna stunt.

Yeah, the prices seem ok to me assuming the tank isn't just a bare tank but came with a light hood & filter. My oscar was $8 as a 2" baby.

To give you an idea of how very soon you need to upgrade your tank, my oscar probably would have been too big for a 10 gallon at 3 months old. They grow fast. I've had mine for under a year and he's already 10". If you can't get that new tank within the next couple of months I'd give the fish to a LFS and get new ones once you get the bigger tank. I know you're probably attached to them already, but that's the best thing for them

yeah i'm looking at an 80 gal tank as i'm wrighting this! i think i'll get it! wher the irodescent outgrows that in a while i may up grade or find a new home... is 80 sufficent fo an oscar and irrodescent (and quite possibly a couple others depending on size and agression)

Until the shark outgrows it, yes.
