A 55g is the ABSOLUTE minimum I would ever recommend for an Oscar. He will live in a 55g but he will probably be deformed because the tank is simply too small for a full-grown oscar, which can be 12"+. You'll need excellent filtration as well, even a medium-sized Oscar can foul up a 55g in a hurry. Only a couple tankmates, and make sure they are not small enough for him to eat, or he will invariably eat them. Make sure they aren't very aggressive either; a male Dempsey will eventually beat the heck out of an oscar in a tank that small.

Alright thanks

In response to your question, I would say, no, it won't "do well" in a tank that size, nor should anything be kept with it.

I would always shoot for 75g minimum for an oscar, unless you wish to stunt its growth.

oh :( alright

Keep them while they're small for a year maybe and then flog them when they get bigger or just keep upgrading as they grow. Not a problem. Mine's healthier than any oscar i've ever seen. I just upgraded to a 4FT. :good:
