I have 2 oscars.5 inches in length.I came by them from an lfs that had 8 oscars andsome others crammed into a 2 and half foot tank. They were badly fin nipped.ive had them 10 days.they are in a 4foot 96 gallon tank with a bn plec.they are doing the usual oscar pushing and shoving and the banging into each other.Would it be best to seperate them by rehoming one now or do you think they are still settling in?

any help appreciated

thanks in advance

You cannot happily keep both oscars in the same tank, you would need a tank at least 6 feet long for that. The best plan would be to pick a favorite, and rehome the other :)

i was going to rescue a albino tiger oscar from my lfs for my 39gal, but my tank was too small, well it was bigger than the tank it was in in the lfs, i should of got him, its probably dies now :(

A pair of Oscars will do just fine in your 4 foot tank, but two Oscars isn't the same as a pair (see the pinned Oscar post) and the chances of them getting along are fairly slim, and as they get bigger the aggression will increase. I agree to choose one and then perhaps add some non-cichlid tankmates like silverdollars or a large pleco. Otherwise, if you can get a couple more Oscars of similar size then the aggression would be spread out among more fish and you should be able to achieve a real pair out of them and then reduce the number to two once again.

thanks for the replies.I have dismantled the cave which seems to of helped a little.Im going to rehome a fish tomorrow.it is going to a great new home
