Our two Oscars (Buster and Oddjob)are rapidly becoming professional beggars and go crazy whenever we go near their tanks (much to the amusement of our children). We give them a variety of food which has prompted mutterings from my OH they are better fed than us! Diet as follows: Bloodworm,Brine Shrimp, Beefheart, Peas and their latest treats are earthworms and "Dillies" Question - how many earthworms/Dillies do you give your Oscars? I don't want to overfeed them yet they seem to be permanently hungry!(they do have one foodfree day a week) I'm also after any recommendations for a good oscar book. thanks for your help!

How big are they?

I don't know what dillies are but a 6-8" Oscar could eat 2 earthworms. Well, they could eat 4 times that but... lol

The more variety for them the better but be careful, it's so easy to overfeed oscars. :good:

Hi Gatorbait - they are both 5-6" big. "Dillies" came from our local aquatic shop pre frozen and are small fish about the size of a small neon tetra. They were recommended to us by the assistant. With regrads to earthworms I usually give them two small (3") worms each.

Ahhh ok. Thanks for the info. :)

Yea, 3" worms they could have 2 or 3 of them no problem.

Do you have any pics of your Oscars? :good:

Hi, thanks for the advice - I haven't quite worked out how to post pictures on the net but as soon as I do they'll be up here.

They could do with a good cichlid pellet in there for all round nutrition. Hikari Cichlid Gold, or Tetra Doromin are good ones - and readily eaten. Mind you, anything's readily eaten by an oscar

I'd leave out the dillies personally especially if they're fish, god knows what they might be carrying if they're just frozen LFS shop stock.

whoops - forgot to mention that they do get the hikari gold as well. The "Dillies" are made by ALF (who seem to have a large range of aquarium producrs as part of their frozen fish food range - "natural fish food from an ecological source and flash frozen"
