I purchased a large oscar from a lfs 3 days ago and he hasn't eaten since being in the tank and today he's swimming head down and belly up at times. He seems to be 'gasping" as his gills are opening/closing more rapidly than the others. I tried hand feeding him but he wouldn't take anything. He's in a 75 gal tank with 3 other oscars and a pacu, a couple of small cats and a pleco. I've had oscars for years and he's definitely acting strange. Please help.

tell u what m8. i think your getting into what i had yesterday, was he heaps lethargic befor he was like this?. mine was swimmin round runnin into stuff for 2 days then he went head down tail up and upside down. ive had him in a bucket for a day and a half now doing water changes every hour and a half. cant guaruntee as this is just what i did and even though it was just a last thing to try and people said to euphasis, hes now doing well and i also did some epson baths inbetween here and there at the beggining.

if u want to try what i did and u should be right as their 10times more resistant to everything then my large male mature jewel fish. so heres what i did

i started off with 3 epson baths thinkin it might be pop eye then i stopped andf put him in a bucket and i would empty this bucket every 2 or so hours by 90% and refill with anouther bucket which i conditioned water in!

today i am doing the same but as he is now swimming fine and back to normal sort i am treating him internally with aquacycline or whatever it is and im adding half a tablet every water change.

believe me it was touch and go but the feeling at 3am when i took a break from playing spore to make a water change was excstasy to see him back to normal and swimming round the bucket!!! if u got nothing to loose maybe u should give a go what i did! all u need is 2 buckets and some water conditioner and if he corrects his swimming then try treating with something for internal like i did!

this way he is isolated and still getting healthy reoxygenated and chlorinated water!
