Just a question... we have a 48 gallon tank, planted with various grade gravel.
8 mth oscar, synodontis cat, giant gourami, 9 inches, and small angel.
Angel keeps nibbling at the gourami, oscar keeps pushing him around and the gourami has scarring down one side.
Are we doing the right thing or do we need to separate any of them.
Could we put the angel in with another tank of with an oscar of 3 ins and a jack dempsey of only 2.5 ins.
Any help would be appreciated.
or could we put it in with a discus or 3 ins and 11 cardinal tetras?

If you want to keep the oscar and/or the gourami, you're going to need a much bigger tank. Giant gouramis reach up to 2ft, so need an absolute min of 180 gallons, preferably even bigger. The oscar needs a min of 55g if kept completely on his own. Some say (and I agree) 75g min. They can get to 16" ;)

The oscar and the JD together would need around 90-100g min. I dont know about the JD on it's own as I've not had one before. But seriously, if you want to keep your oscar and giant gourami, you're going to need at least, bare minimum of 180g, with a view to upgrading should your gourami get towards 2ft. You wont be able to keep the angel in with the oscar for much longer - I'm assuming at 8 months he's headed for about 8-9"? If so, you're lucky the angel's lasted this long ;) Absolutely not with a JD either.

If you cant upgrade, sell/return the oscar, syno and gourami, and stick with the angel - get him an angel friend, and a small group of medium tetras, and you'll have a beautiful tank :)

48g is the absolutey minimum for an oscar.. assuming the tank is 4 feet long, and you overfilter the tank like crazy.

As stated above, the giant gourami will need a very large tank itself..

Your best bet would be to find new homes for your giant gourami and JD or oscar..

Thanks for advice, but for now, could I put the angel in with a small discus and 11 small tetras.
Cheers.
