Would these two guys be able to coexist in a 120 US gallon tank without any major issues?

As long as the Pleco isn't small enough to be eaten. Oscars usually don't bother Plecos because they are always out of the way and in no way a threat to their food source. The tank is plenty big enough as well.

I have 4 Plecs in my 125 with an Oscar and he has never shown the slightest interest in them. Ensuring the plecs are big enough to avoid being eaten is important though.

Well it looks like I'm going to be getting a 75 gallon tank, will the oscar and pleco be alright as long as I have a good filtration system?

I would say yes with no other fish in there, only just though.

Would it be better to go with a royal pleco instead of the common in the 75 with the oscar?

Well..it looks like i'm going to be unable to get a 120 gallon tank, but a 75 gallon instead. Will the oscar and common be alright in there together or would it be better to stick a royal pleco in there with the oscar instead?

it may be better as the royals grow a little smaller, so it would mean there would be more room in the tank (still just keep the two fish though)

plus royal plecos are nocternal, so the oscar will be sleeping while hes out and about

If you're thinking of a Royal, it's worth knowing that being a panaque, they'll make twice as much waste as other plecs. It's also not easy to find larger specimens (and when you do, they'll be expensive). I wouldn't put an LFS small Royal in with even a baby oscar, as Royals grow on average an inch a year and Oscars on average an inch a month. So if you're going for a Royal, it'd be better to find a mature specimen, and would work out cheaper than trying repetitively with smaller ones.

What are the dimensions of the tank? Maybe there is another plec to suit? Commons and gibbies (and obviously albino variations thereof) would need larger tanks though (and so would the Royal eventually).

Well I currently have a small common temperarily residing in a 20 gallon community tank(I bought him a month or two ago without doing my homework), and since they get so large, I'm either going to move him into a new 75 gallon tank i'm getting with an oscar, or I'm going to have to take him back to the store :(
