ok so im #### at the technical stuff LOL, ive got an idea how this is all to be put together but i thought id probably ask first.

got my sump the other day along with a dymax protein skimmer venturi series V5-10 and Hailea pump to go in the sump. ok so im guessing this is how it goes cause i bought all the gear off a dude i kno who owns our lfs. my sump is 2 chambers, goes in and through bioballs then a 3 stage up down then up path, then to the rest of the sump which is open. i hadnt read my on protein skimmers but does it sit inside my sump and hook up to my return pump im wondering?

guessing so that water gets sucked through the skimmer by the pump which is connected to one hose then returned to the main tank by the return? and also want to ask is it ok for the skimmer to sit in the sump? ive got a suction cap thingy with 2 prongs on the other side and only way i can see it fitting because theres not much room between the top of the sump and the stand top. cheers. sry not very technical LOL.

Most skimmers are powered by their own pump, but yes, the sump is a perfect place to put one.

Ideally you wouldn't want the skimmer in the return section of the sump as they will release micro bubbles into the water. Best bet in my opinion is to throw out the bioballs and put the skimmer in there.

doesnt rly help me. ive got a skimmer and ive got bioballs with a chamber.

do i run the skimmer through the return pump suck in area?

ill ask if thats how he planned it when he did the quote up but yeah!

no harm having the skimmer in there, but i'd have the water flowing back into the first chamber

chamber one/chamber2 = I__IiI___I

if you can understand thant then it flows through the 1st chamber bioballs then goes down then up through 3 dividers then into the big long section. im sure the dude meant for me to rig up the return to the skimmer and have them in the same section. only way itd work!

depends on the model of skimmer really, mine has a flexible hose as the outflow so i can point it anywhere.

yeah mine has the hose to. im just confused bout how i set it up. is it ok to have water sucked through it by the pump connected at one end then sucked in through the pump then up to the tank?

this is the only way i could see it being done with the gear i was given.

by having the pump connected to the skimmer outake and sucking water through the skimmer then into the pump and up to the tank again.

microbubbles?

Perhaps a picture or a model of your sump would help? ;)
