up here in scotland the LFS just sell your run of the mill fish, but i was wondering does any of your shops get you specific fish if you ask them to order it for you?

and do they charge you a bit higher as it isnt one of there stock items or is it normal priced?,

I think with most shops if enough people want it they'll order it. Maybe if you get some people who live near you to ask for the same fish...?

i used to work at a lfs in London, and they would order in a fish if a customer wanted it... I think they needed a deposit though.

at my lfs i wanted some amano plant shrimps they hadnt had any in ages so i asked the guy and he says yes havent had any in and so he ordered me some in and when i bought them i got a discount on them even better

I special ordered my firemouth, I didn't have to pay until he came, and it didn't cost extra. The only problem was they can't special order unless they order a minimum of 100$ worth of fish for that week, and since it was a slow period, I had to wait two weeks instead of one. But it was worth it :D

I have ordered fish in the past, but have never been charged extra. As a matter of fact, i was given discount for buying in bulk. I ordered my 8 glass catfish, 12 rasbora and two pearl goramis from the one store and was given 15% off. YAY. But this is of course in Australia. :D

I have never requested any fish before. I requested some zebra finches however, and they did have a lot come in about 2 weeks later. I didn't buy any though because I changed my mind about getting another.

I have been recently thinking about asking them if they could get a variety of bettas in since all they ever have are red veils. Not even blue or green veils - every single one of them are always completely red... it's so boring. I have never seen anything except veils before in real life, and it would be really kool to actually see (and maybe buy) a crowntail, or at least a veil that had amazing colors.

My LFS orders in fish if you ask them to. They don't charge extra, but I usually just wait until they come into stock, as it's usually quicker.

I have a red VT but I think he's beautiful. He might not be as expensive as a halfmoon or delta, but he's just as sweet.

My LFS was crap in regards to ordering fish the one time I tried. The fish manager told me that he could order crowntail bettas for me and I was so excited. I went to pick one up, and they were plakats. Not that there's anything wrong with plakats, but I really wanted the crowntail. I refused to buy them. Then they ordered 'halfmoon' bettas -- really just deltas with a single ray extension. I don't like the fish manager there.

You might want to make sure that they know what you'jre talking about when you want to order new things.

My lfs will order any fish or aquarium goods we need, they're ever so good in general, they do like to take a deposit though.

There's only 1 thing they wouldn't order for me and that was a rhom (piranha) as they say we would need to order about 10 because they eat their way out of the bag in transit!!!! :( (why can't they transit them in a tank) never mind eh!
:look:

Mine will special order for me. They charge what would be their regular list price, no special markups. The fish come in with their regular shipments so it's not like they're paying tons of special shipping charges just for my fish.

Any of the independent lfs I shop at are happy to order fish for me, but they are limited to what their distributors get in. Anything beyond that, I would have to go online and shop for myself.

Now, equipment and supplies are another matter entirely. They will go to a lot of trouble to locate something I ask for. :D

I guess it might depend on the value of the fish you are trying to get hold of, eg. the shop I use is more than happy to special order me a marine fish since these get bought individually, but then if you only want a couple of cheapish freshwater fish that the shop has to buy in bulk then they might not be so keen.
