ordered my lights heaters air pump air line bubble disc test kits and plants yesterday gonna fill tank tomorrow. was going to do it tonight but realised didnt have enough dechlorinator. how long will it take a 100g tanlk to get up to temp using 2 300w heaters. would it pay to leave some room to give it a helping hand?

wont take too long, few hours, but id leave it overnight anyways.
dont use tap hot water as there is more copper in the pipes ( or something)
cant wait for the pics :)

oh ok thanks. is it really a no no using from hot tap? i always put a little warm water in the bucket when i do my weekly water change to try and have the water i put in at a similar temp to the water already in the tank so as not to shock the fish too much. i will be putting some new pics on either at the weekend or early next week

ah but you cant reccomend against it so it seems you're sitting on the fence then

this fence is very comfy as it happens..i do it and never had problems, but one of the mods wrote and artcle about it saying that levels of copper in the hot pipes or tank (cnt rem which) are way higher than that in the cold pipes ( as its not stored).. so its up to you to make an imformed descision, but what i do is when i do a water change i only do about 30% so the temp isnt that badley affected, but on filling for the first time i would be tempted to leave it overnight,

i got a combi boiler so my hot water is not stored in copper tank ( boiler kicks in when hot tap turned on) i usually only change 20 to 30 % at a time too. and as for the fence i find i get splinters in my bum :hyper:

ooohh maybe worth waiting for better advice then, combi boiler didnt occur to me ( well it does when i go for a shower in the morning and theres no hot water)i dunno where you stand on that one, but ill look forward to finding out

If you have a combi boiler you can use the hot water as it is not sitting in a tank somewhere being kept warm collecting metals from the container and pipework

Cheers, Karl
