Hi...
I'm interested in getting an Orca MT50, but someone at the fish shop I was looking at it in, said that the filteration is awful so I'd need to upgrade it. I'm not entirely sure what I'd upgrade to. Does anyone have any ideas? Or if the filter would be fine and not need changing? Also, I'm looking at getting one mid next month, so is there anything that I need to look at getting extra?
Thanks :)

Not as familiar over here in the US with all the full kit aquariums you have over there. I know that many here seem to like the Aqua One aquariums as similar kit types, but not sure if they may be more expensive. You are very wise to begin seeking advice and to take your time and learn as many things as possible before actually starting. Not many people do that and its a great advantage. Filters especially are important to learn about and understand prior to starting out on your fishless cycle. There can be right and wrong types of media for beginners.

i did look in to geting that set up but decided not to cos all the filter is in the back off the tank and if i wanted to upgrade the filter i cant see it being done with out messing up the look of the tank plus it acrylic .

so i got the aqua one ar 620 holds more water (more fish :D ) its glass and if the filter is not good enough i can cut a few holes in the back of the lid and add a external filter with out it looking an eye sore plus its was only about £20 more

Ive got this tank and had it 6 months had no problems with it whatsoever and the filter is of a good standard

Im about to purchase this tank. But am a bit concern about the hood/lid. Can it be easily removed? I need to place the tank in the fireplace and there is limiyed space for operation over the tank and around it. just a frontal access. I cannot slid the lid back and forth or turned over around the rear hinge. neither can I slid it & turned over to hang vertically on the rear wall outside the aquarium....Just neeed to take it off every timre. Is that easy/possible?

Hi there! This is a very old thread and you might need to start your own thread to get the members attention.. but I'll comment anyway. There is a member "dorsey" I believe who knows a lot about the AquaOne tanks and there are other members too. Its a very, very bothersome problem to not leave yourself enough access around a tank. Until you've experienced it, it can be hard to truly realize that the tank is very heavy and permanently positioned and if you "can't get there," then you "ah, really can't get there," lol. Of course, if you've really no alternative then perhaps you'll do what you have to but I'd exhaust all other possibilities first!

Hi, thanks for RE.

You're right: contacting ditrectly users who have got the tank is the best way to get the answers

But....

I cannot send private messages to users: this is what i get: Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:

I would get a Whisper filter that fits your tank size. they are extremely good and reliable.

oh, no, I didn't mean to PM him, there's a delay of some sort before you can start doing that, I just thought he might happen to see it (some members get tipped off by there friends I guess or do a quick search to see if their name has come up in distant threads.)

For HOB filters we have a lot of recommendations for the AquaClear (AC) filters because the media areas of the filter box are simple rectangles of space, allowing maximum flexibility in media choice. For internal filters we see the most recommendations for Fluval filters. For small external cannisters, the Rena XP1 or the Tetratec EX600 are often mentioned.
