what colour do you want to achieve in the fry.......Ivy carries red, and Mr. Hyper has yellow.....yellow is a result of a red loss gene, so if the female carries red, its unlikely the yellow will come out in the babies....unless the blue/yellow on Mr. Hyper has the marble gene and I can't remember how thats inherited....I shall go see
so babies could be blue with red maybe, or just blue....but will be a striking HM
I wouldnt mind seeing him with the pretty yellow HM you got from bettaboys.
but if you want blue/green Hm's you got a good pair

Personally I wouldn't use Ivy because of the red in her finnage. As lilly rose said a nice yellow female or something from that colour layer. They are both lovely fish though, don't get me wrong

just happens that i have a yellow HM ;) but would that not result in the same since its still the red gene?

I know nothing about genetics, but you have some very pretty fish. Can you keep a log about the breeding of the bettas, so we can see what the fry look like?

Neomeris

Yellow is below the red gene, yellow is the lack of all the other colours. You should get fry that are mostly like the dad. Ofc it depends on the parents of mum and dad and them being pure to their colour. you might get some blues an possibly some greens. but red is unlikely.

I would be really interested in following this spawn and seeing what colour ratio you get. I never got round to putting my new found knowledge to practice :p I might have to by some fry from you too :)

need more luck this time :/ tried a HMPK x PK marble spawn but he wasn't cooperating, all the signs were there when she was in the chimney, as soon as she was let out he went into kill mode

Its just how some males are at times. They sometimes take a disliking to the female. Have you tried him with other females as it could be just her.

Oh and good luck, I'm sure it will be fine :good:

Hi lilfishie, as far as I am aware, the yellow is the red loss gene....if there is any red in the genetics of the fish, then the fry will have red......if not the fry will have yellow..but the yellow is recessive, extended red ( super reds) are dominant over normal red, and both are dominant over yellow. The link below is a fab benetics link. page three explains the yellow genetic inheritance

here is the link for genetics for you
