A mixture of Spike Tailed and Sparkling Gouramis.

Both are fairly small and I've already started cycling a 29 gallon well planted tank.

How many could I fit in the tank comfortably?

give a species name that might help.
sorry don't know much about them myself..so i stuck to one blue gourami in my 30 gal..i've seen people have more, but i keep reading how some of them get pretty territorial as they age..so i just stuck with one. not sure about these though

Gotcha snagged the genera and species.

Spike Tail Gourami - Pseudosphromenus dayi

And

Sparkling Gourami - Trichopsis pumila

I tried just researching this on google, but didn't find too much.
it sounds like they are both peaceful and similar sized. each get to around 1/5" right?
It does say they get a bit territorial if spawning..
Again, I don't know much about them..but with the impression I'm getting, if that is all you're going to keep, i think you could go with 8 of each. They would have a little extra room then, in case there are territorial issues...maybe even just satart with 6 of each and go from there.

Just offering my opinion since no one else is..i think not many people know much about these two fish, they seem a little rare.
sounds like it would be an awesome tank though.
you should just go for the biotope thing..i think they are from similar areas, asia.

just my guess.

Thanks!

Yup, all the info I turned up as well said they were small and well balanced. I've planted a good chunk of the tank and it's pretty tall and big. Enough room for plenty of territory^^

so what do you plan to do? i wont be offended if you don't follow my advice since i obviously don't know much about it either..it's just a suggestion that seems reasonable (overly cautious).
hmm..the only thing that might be an issue is if you add more later..they might have territorial issues with the new ones..but you know, i think most fish work that out pretty quickly and calmly..i just mention it because some kribs i had, killed 2 platies and a balloon molly when i added them to the tank (gf's tank broke)...but i kinda doubt it would be an issue with these fish.

i'm really jealous. i've never seen those fish around here, and they sound like they would be great for smaller tanks.

I need to work on the water first, I'm looking at starting off with on species and then introducing the other one later on.

you could go for 10 of each if the tank is heavilly planted with a few caves as this would allow the fish to have their own territories
mostly they only get nippy when they are spawning and this is only really chasing off others from their bubble nest

Tank would have to be cycled - which will take 4-6 weeks

add 4 of one lot first then 2 weeks later add another 4 and so on until you get your 2 lots of 10
keep testing the water after you have added the fish and deal with any water problems before adding any more fish

Sounds good, the water on my tank is going well.

Here's the journal for it with some pics I took Link

It's going to be starting it's third week of cycling soon.
