I noticed an odd discoloration at the base of my Opaline Gourami's fins as well as the little antennae looking things (dunno what they're called  ). It is a tint of red, right where they protrude from the body, not to mention his top fins seemed sort of clamped. His face is also a bit red. He is rather listless, hangs around my filter intake, and I noticed he didn't want to eat today. His other opaline gourami friend has the same red fins, but he's very active. My 3 spot gourami has the red fins as well, but again, is very active and eating well.

Unfortunately I have no way to test the water, considering I don't have a test kit. I've had the tank for 2 months now and have been doing a fish-in cycle since day 1 and have had no casualties, always maintained very frequent, large water changes, and fed sparsely. All the fish are active, healthy and fine, accept my gouramis :(

What could it be, and what can I do? I just did a 50% water change yesterday, I was thinking about adding some table salt, I believe it's pure sodium chloride, will this help.. at all? I can possibly get some medicine tomorrow. I just treated the tank a few days ago for ick, if that matters, but I'm not seeing any ick on them (nor did they appear to have it before, but still)

Scratch that, it is iodized salt.

Do more water changes and get a test kit. they are being poisoned by the ammonia and nitrite. Which weaken there emune system.

Then why are the other fish thriving?

Also, I have this piece of filter media, can't remember the name, but it's a bag full of white rocks, said to be an ammonia remover? Shouldn't that be controlling it, along with my matured sponges and biobags?
