So I was tired when I was doing some tank maintenance on my 30gal and accidentally washed my AquaTech biofoam with tap water.

Am I best putting it back into the filter and letting nature take its course or should I put new biofoam in and let the tank re-cycle?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure what 'AquaTech is' but I can tell you chlorinated water doesn't instantly kill bacteria as the source of bacteria comes from the tap water anyway... the longer its in chlorinated water the more bacteria will die.

AquaTech is a brand of filter. It sat in tap water for about a minute. You think it's gonna be ok? Thanks for the reply.

Is aquatech available in UK? Maybe that why PDSimon doesn't know what it is? But anyway, I did the same thing earlier last week. If you were doing maintenance, I'm assuming there are now fish in the tank?

From what I understand about lovely tank bacteria, it is on other stuff in the tank. As long as you didn't take too much water out and wash the entire tank down, there still may be enough bacteria chillin in the tank. If you use the carbon filters that usually come with aquatech filters n such, just keep the old carbon filter in it since after a few weeks that filter doesn't do much except harbor bacteria anyway (another reason I like it). If you threw the carbon filter away, then don't panic. I think you'll be alright just leaving the biofilter in the filter. The bacteria from the rest of the tank should be enough to establish new colonies.

If you have fish in it, I wouldn't do a new cycle because, unless you can move the fish, you could permanently damage or kill them.

When I did it, I just picked my biofilter up and put it back in the tank :) Levels remained normal. And I did a 25% water change and had already washed the plants :( I also left a carbon filter out because I was going to put meds in for a bacterial infection in my cories barbels... then I accidentally over dosed my fish and had to do ANOTHER 25% water change, and everything is still normal :) the fish are all okay too

I hope somebody else will fix any errors I probably made and give you help if you did scrub the tank or something! Good luck!
