So this tank of mine is barely 4 weeks old. I am new to the hobby. And this morning I found three fry hiding under rocks. I barely know what to do with the adults and cycling etc... Have no clue what to do for these little angels. First of all they are super fast, super small and hiding. How the heck would I get them out into a separate tank if I wanted to???

AND I have no idea how many there are left but I know some were eaten because I saw at least 2 dead babies in the gravel.

I have 3 mollies and 4 platys in a 20 gallon tank--all levels are normal.

Thank you for any advice!

How long have they been there?
You will probably find that they will hide and survive on their own... and if they dont (and get eaten) im sure it wont be too long until they have more babies!
You could always buy a breeding net and try and catch them and put them in the breeding net in the same tank (if you dont want them to get eaten)

I'm in a simlar position, maybe slightly more planned but I was expecting to wait a month or so for fry and they appeared 2 days after putting the fish in!

I've just left mine to it, hoping to get one or maybe two at a push to survive but they seem to be doing better than expected! There is atleast 5 of them and they're coming out at feeding time now and looking a lot bigger than they were!

Now my next problem is the other female is looking a lot more square so I think she is due soon!

I've got space for maybe 10 but after that I'm going to be struggling! - I've got a spare tank ready and will have to be selling/giving away fish soon!

I have no idea how long they have been there. So far I think I now have three. I caught one---by sheer dumb luck and put it in a baby pen. So he is a happy camper. The other two are going to be tough. And I have a sneaky suspicion that all the platy's sold to me were in fact pregnant females. Uh. Sure wish I had known.

BTW--if anyone has a great trick for catching fry..please let me know!

Thanks,
K

Congrats on your fry :good:

When they are tiny i find using a gravel vac, mine has a large end and hole going up through the tube, you can suck them in a bucket with a floating trap in.instant caught fry.

I found loads when i upgraded tank, they hide very well,if you carefully lift ornaments etc in the tank you will see them underneath, you can net them if your quick.

My fry to tend to hide under the moss balls, plenty of food source and cover!!
