well i thought that keeping my discus in a 25 gal tank would be fine for a bit but until it grew out but i guess i was wrong... i dont noe any1 that will take the little fella and i dont have the money to buy a new tank even if i did my mom would say no. I have a book on keeping them and have been 2 many diffrent websites...the order is in and the fish store wont take the fish off me. what am i going too do!? i have 3 cory cats in there as the clean up crew and have a bunch of live plants to help maintain good water quality. i will be doing 20% water changes after every feed once i get them but for now all i can do is panic...i did reashearch and talked to someone who was "supposedly" an expert but i guess not. i hope this guy doesnt grow out 2 fast anywayz here are the demensions... 2ft long, 1.6 tall and 1 and a bit feet wide. :-( please help me

You are right - this is way too small for your discus, how many are there? You shouldn't be keeping them singly they shoudl be in groups, in a large tank. All I can suggest you do is put adverts out locally for someone to adopt him and check with all your LFSs to see if they can help.

Lets just clear this up - you've special ordered one small discus through a local store & they won't keep the fish & sell it to someone else even if you pay for the fish?

pretty much its a small fish store and they have limited space. I am keeping this one alone because on allexperts.com a girl told me it would be ok alone in a 20-30 gallon tank...I live in Grand Cayman which is part of the British West Indies and is 30 mins. away from Miami. Ill try to advertise the fish but it just seems like a waste, i mean this was supposed to be my birthday present that i had wanted for like 3 months...what would be the smallest sized tank and smallest amount of Discus i could have??

so youve finally come around?!?

if you tell the fish shop you cant home the fish they cant force it on you and im sure they have plenty of connections so could easily give it a more appropriate tank.

now u jus gotta sort the ID shark and the rest of your fish :)

well i was told if i watch how much i feed the ID shark wouldnt grow. all i want is one fish the biggest i can put in and still have him happy. any suggestions? as for the connections. this Island has only two pet stores and out of both one only sells fish. these stores are complete rivals. I don't think they would give it a better home, probly just plop it into a 15 gallon tank with a bunch of plecos and no ornaments and wait for it to be sold...if some more of my birthday money comes in i might b abeal to get a bigger tank and then move all my fish from my ten gal. into my 25 gal. and set my ten gal up as a med tank

What are the dimensions? If it's 2'x1' floor print probably a fish that grows 4" maybe. You could get a congo puffer and have that as the only fish in the tank. There are plenty of options.

the demensions are... 1.6 ft. tall, 2ft long and 1 and a little ft. wide. do Congo puffers need salt? i have some corys in there right now and was hopeing i could keep them along with the plants...

if theres 2 competitive stores then you can pretty much gurantee there jus gonna sell anything they can to ya.

theyll jus want cash and wont care about their fish so there probably not the best people to listen to.

http://allexperts.com/ is a bit general too but atleast you found this place i guess!

if you want to keep the corys why not get a pair of bolivian rams and a nice shoal of cardinal/neon tetras (about 6) and then maybe a bristlenose plec. heavily plant it and it will look great.

Well the page said ti was on Discus and the person who wrote it was the one I talked to so I thought it would be okay...still any suggestions on the biggest fish possible i could put in there if i cant get a bigger tank. what would be the smallest recommended size tank for that fish? ooh sounds create!!! i love Bolivian Rams

i suggested some fish in the post above ^^ .

55 gallons is the minimum reccomended size for discus and thats so you can keep the water clean and the conditions stable and keep them in a group of about 5 to keep them happy!

Discuslova can you link me to your question on that experts site still?

wanna talk to the person in question.
