i'm a little confused. i'm looking at buying a load of plants online from somewhere like java or greenline, but im slightly confused to how the pricing works. for example, amazon sword £1.50 for 5 plants: does this mean 5 bunches of amazon swords, or a single "bunch" consisting of 5 stems?

If its 5 plants, then you get five individual amazon sword plants for £1.50. Same goes for most things, like all stem plants, amazon frogbit and sags. You buy per plant, but to save money you can buy a couple of plants in a 'bunch' :)

ok thanks, ordered some from java eventually, have to wait for them to come now :(

The difference revolves around the nature of the plant. Things like Amazon Swords and Cryptocoryne are "Rosette" plants which have a root, a crown and leaves growing from the crown. These are typically sold as individual plants, i.e. one crown, with roots below and leaves above.

Things like Cabomba, Hornwort, Bacopa etc., are "Stem" plants. These may have a root stock, but from this, long stems grow with leaves appearing at lengths along the stem. typically these are sold as a number of cuttings, i.e. pieces of stem which will often root if treated correctly.

There are other types, Anubius sprecies for example which grow from a rhizome, these, again, are typically sold as "a plant" meaning a piece of rhizome with a few leaves growing from it.
