Hi, i haven't used plantsalive.co.uk yet, i usually use greenmachine but these guys do have a good selection of plants at good prices, does anybody know if they are any good?

I've always used them, nice plants and very cheap.

yeh i think i'll give them a go, green machine is second to none for customer service, quality and packaging but they are quite expensive - these guys are super cheap so its worth a try.

you should try aqua essentails, their experience, and customer service is unsurpassed

I haven't ordered plants from them before but i have had plenty of other equipment from them and they are incredibly quick, i'll have a look.

Plants alive have been terrible in my experience. I ordered 5 plants, and got 5 cuttings that must have been off one plant - no root stock at all on any of them.

Aquaessentials are very good - although they occasionally say that things are in stock when they are not.

plants alive have been great for me, ordered a load of crypts from them, the came quick, i trimmed the roots and preped them for planting, suffered the usual crypt rot for a week or two, then i have sold 5 of the plant on after they have doubled in size and now i have a couple left and have not got runners everywhere so its good.

AE are virtually the same as TGM truck, both stocking tropica plants, they are IMO the best but this guys want cheap and AE's plants are the same prices pretty much as TGM.

good postage from PA as well.

i have ordered of plants alive before, the plants came very quickly they were in perfect condition and the price was dirt cheap compared to ae and thegreenmachine

10/10 for plants alive

Plants alive have been bad for me. Poor quality, not that well packaged either. Sent me wrong plants too. Vallis died, Zost. in tiny pots that were just the tips of adult plants.

Aquaessentials or green machine for me from now on. You get what you pay for imo.

I ordered from plants alive and was disappointed in the past...

Here's what happened:

The floating plants had moth larvae which later flew out my tank into the room  I actually count that as the best thing about my order :D.

I had pics in the post of how bad it was, but they've gone now and I cant find them on my PC.

Basically, if you do a search, it's mixed reviews. If you want cheap plants, check out greenline, your lfs or I found java plants OK (aside from the plants nearly killing my shrimp).

Tropica from aquaessentials is well worth it IMO, the pot's do appear more expensive, but the plants are of far better quality and you get a surprising amount of plants in them.

I use AE most of the time now :good:.

Has anyone had any recent bad experiences of them?

Despite any problems other people have had (don't forget that if people have recieved their plants perfectly, they don't usually say anything, whereas if it's been bad they shout from the rooftops), it's still worth buying from them. For the price of a couple of pots of Tropica you can deck out your whole tank, if it turns out badly (which is unlikely) you can always get a refund.
