Should work. If anything, a trio is preferential to a pair because the male will harass his females VERY actively, IME. I had a pair, but it became a trio (1M, 2F) after my male harassed the first female to death.

If you can get 2 females and a male it is a better option but if you cant get 2 females then just keep one single male rather than 2 males as 2 males will fight.
