One Jewel Cichlid

A while ago, my sister gave me a tank and two fish... I was able to give away one of them, but now I have a Jewel that I can't find a home for. I don't know what kind of special treatment they like. Since I'm possibly going to be stuck with it for an extended amount of time, I'd appreciate some pointers on what I should do.

I don't know if it's a male or female. Right now it's in a 10 gallon. The temp is 78F. I do 25-40% water changes every week. I feed it Hikari cichlid gold pellets.

Will your LFS rehome it for you?

No, they won't take it. The only places around that have fish are PetSmart and WalMart. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck for a bit. It's not that I can't take care of it, it's just that I don't know anything about this type of fish and I'm sure it would be happier in someone else's home. But until that happens, I do want to make it comfortable.

Look around the lfs and see if you see anyone buying Jewel Cichlids or other African Cichlids. If you do, ask if they would be intristed in a feww Jewel Cichlid. Everything you doing sounds right.
