Why when someone starts a thread slagging off certain pet stores is the thread abruptly closed? Just curious.

Because the owner of the forum is legally liable for the content of the comments posted. Anything which is defamatory or libellous, the owner could be sued. It has happened to forums on other topics.

Because if mods/admins let this negative fishback pinpointed to specific shops continue, it is opening up the site and its owner to legal litigation along the lines of slander/sueing.

i did say to use the 'search' button and you will see a myriad of stuff about why we close the threads.

There has been some litigation over a few certain big companies via forums. One that springs to mind is a well known Golf forum and some members we attacking a certain company, the forum got shut down and the owner got sued for estimated damages.

Shame the same rules dont apply to Facebook, etc as would save a load of hassle!!!
So much for freedom of speech, human rights, etc!!!

They are trying to pass laws on Facebook, Twitter etc etc regarding trolls. Someone already has had a custodial sentence for abusing Twitter.

The problem with freedom of speech is that it isn't always so. Take for example, people don't have freedom of speech here, it's privately owned, so we (the mods, admin and owner) have pretty much the go ahead on whats said here. Freedom of speech doesn't always apply.
