One External Filter Or 2?

i have currently running on my 48 uk gal tank a tetratec ex700 which i think is fab,and there is a aquaflow 100 internal which i want to move over to the fry tank has it has hopefully now cycled,its been in the main tank for 6 weeks,anyway its my birthday tomorrow and have decided to buy another external,

Should i get another tetratec ex700 and run both,so if one goes down i got a back up or go for a tetratec ex1200? and remove the ex 700?

On my big tank I am running 2 external filters rather than one filter. The reason being if your one filter decided to pack up you still have a back up. Unless you want to keep one spare in the cupboard.

i would out of the 2 get another the same then you wont have to buy different foams etc when needed, unless they use the same sizes like rena do on the xp series. :good:

A tetratec EX1200 will be spot on for your tank, esp with a spray bar

Think i will get the ex1200 and keep the ex700 running as well,this won't be too much filtration will it? with a spray bar at each end from back to front skimming across the surface,will stop any dead spots.

keeping both running just in case the 6 footer comes my way in the future :lol:

I dont think you can have to much filtration, it will will turn the tank over faster and be more clearer
i would just put the media into the ex1200 and run it on its own, have the spray bar in the water but pointing upwards this will agitate the water for oxygen

unfortunately, you will need more filtration, than those two filters for a 6 six footer, unless its 6 inches wide. but they are, just, up to your tank now.
