As some of you may know, I have a tank containing a shoal of neons and a couple of golden eyed dwarf cichlids..
For weeks now I have been proud and happy because all were getting along 'swimmingly' (boom boom..)..
One of my neons was a runty fella who I wound up with as a freebie extra- he's never been quite right and I expected him to die as soon as I got him. He had one eye and overnight would float randomly about on his head before making a miraculous recovery the next morning...
He was definitely not all there...
Over the last few days I thought he was looking a little more 'tired' and really expecting death. Everyone else was doing great- he stuck out rather..
Then my cichlid decided to take matters into his own fins! He sneaked up on his non eye side and grabbed him head first! The neon wiggled loose but died within a couple of minutes.
In a panic I rang my fish supplier- asking if I should split the whole lot up. He said that basically very few fish would not have a go at a dying fish anyway and not to worry too much- it was just too good an opportunity for my little dwarf cichlid to take!
My other neons are all in good health and dual eyed, and do not seem overly concerned by their tank mate. He was my only neon lost since I bought them all.
Would you panic?
