We`re off to dell for a new PC and i`ve heard mixed reviews of the on board graphics.
it comes with Integrated nVidia® GeForce® 6150 LE graphics

but i`m tempted to upgrade it to something like a 256 MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 PCI Express
unless any one can suggest anything else i`m not really wanting to pay a huge ammount for one 40- 50 squid
and woud either of these work with a 22 inch monitor?

any help greatly apreciated.

other comp stats are:

PROCESSOR AMD® Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium - English
MONITOR Dellâ„¢ 22" Black Wide Flat Panel (E228WFP) - UK/Irish edit
MEMORY 1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512]
HARD DRIVE 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurstâ„¢ cach
GRAPHICS CARD Integrated nVidia® GeForce® 6150 LE graphics
OPTICAL DRIVE 16x DVD +/- RW Drive

erm some gaming. surfing. could quite easily use it for downloading and watching movies and tv ect (all legaly of course)

Bit of both...
i havent really bought any games for years as the new ones tend to crash or go all pixelated after half an hour of running

Do you mean the GeForce or the Radeon or both?

any recommendations?

and just doing some research they games i like to play seem to mostly run off of the cpu and Ram (however that works) games like sims, rome total war and some other strategy, adventure roleplaying(don`t even think it!) type games

If you want to play new games on a 22 inch monitor, I would recommend one of the nvidia 8800GTX (the most expensive :p) but if you maybe downgraded the screen to maybe a 19 inch - you could get away with spending £140 ish on a card such as a radeon 1950xtx. Also look into 8800GTS 320mb. Also plump for an intel core 2 duo system - worth the extra £

naaa dude that would send me way over budget.
no way i can talk the mrs into a 150 quid graphics card.
like i said 50 quid is about the budget might be able to puch a bit but not much

lol specially as it's me paying :p

so what's the minimum graphix card you'd recommend for us to play a few games like the sims and rome total war on a 22" monitor?

try the nvidea 7600gt pci ex card, i paid £70 for mine, though this may not be so everywhere, lol i bet its close to £150 in pcworld. indeed i had the same built in graphics as you myself. this card seems to offer the best all round performance. it makes a fair fist at may new games, and is vastly quicker then the built in one. you also get your system memory back, as the old card used that. i trawled the net and forums looking for just such a card, this one seem to be it. it is rated as the best sub £100 graphics card ATM. both gaming and computer people seem to agree. top value and a noticeable increase in performance, over the standard one. the GS version of this card goes for £50 ish, but you lose the gaming option, reducing the dvd playback possibilitys too.

incidentally i can give you the addy of the firm i bought it from, just in case you have problems getting it at a decent price

cheers bob but we went with the 256MB Inno3D GeForce 8500GT graphics card instead should do the trick nicely i hpe :p
