A half black guppy was acitng strangely today not swimming as active
I looked at him for at least 30 mins and couldnt see any sign of a disease

He has been in my tank for a month at least.

The tank had a fishless cycle
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 40
ppm

Came in today and he was dead :(

This has happened before but it was a few weeks ago with other guppies.

Help please, I thought i wouldnt lose another.

What size is the tank? How many fish and what types? pH? Any way that a toxin has been introduced to your water? Bloating? Thin? What does their poo look like?

27 uk litre
7 guppies and 6 tetras
No toxins,
Im worried that i should of done a water change every week, i was recommended not to, because the tank isnt very old (about 2 months)
The others look fine im just fed up of random deaths

The guppies always slow down swimming hanging around the surface then they die that day

:(

Your tank is severely overstocked. The 7 guppies alone would likely be too many in a newer tank. Did you test the water before or after the water change? I'm surprised that your ammonia/nitrites aren't through he roof. Did you do a fishless or fish-in cycle?

in a tank that size with the current stocking you will be needing to do waterchanges every few days
as said you are overstocked
what tetra have you got?
are all the guppies male?

Yes all are male, rather small

I have a good filter (fluval plus 1)
which is mroe than enough for the size

and my ammonia and nitrite has always been under control i test regulary
3 neon tetras and 3 black and white tetras

Fishless cycle, did lots of research ... added enough ammonia and waited for around 4 weeks until it handled the ammonia and nitrite until it was 0 ppm

Regardless of your water parameters, it must be stressful to be crammed into such a small space with so many other fish. I would try to re-home the Tetras and see if the Guppies' behavior improves. In such a small tank, you should definitely be doing water changes at least once a week. Did you test your water before or after your water change?

before
I havent done a water change in a while

I'd do a 50% water change and see if it perks them up.

Your tank is overstocked as above said..

neons and guppies only, you can have a max of 8 with weekly waterchanges of about 40%...

Dont worry about the tank not being very old, does not matter how many water changes you do, the filter holds 95% of the bacteria and the water only 5% if that.
