so, i'm moving out of my house, and into a new apartment, my parents want to keep my existing 180 gallon tank and the nice community thats in it

so, i'm getting a new 180 (6'x2'x2') gallon for my apartment, i've got an oscar and 2 severums that are definitely going to be in it, the trouble is i don't know what else to put in it to fill it out and make it look apealing, if i can even fit any more fish in it that is

i was thinking more severums, but some sites say they'll get too big and it'll be a conflict, then i was thinking maybe something like an acara or two

i was wondering what everyone else thinks i should add

what'll make for a nice tank?

I also have an 180 Litre, and i was told it was too small for even 1 oscar :/ Shame cos i like them, but i have 2 angels in my smaller tank, waiting to go into my big tank, and i here that oscars dont like angels, or rather they do...... for lunch..... :-( -_-

well my personal opinion would be to get another oscar or 2, add a couple different species of geophagus, and then add some mid sized cichlids like a firemouth. you really want to avoid central americans just too agressive and the large central americans could very well eventually claim the whole tank as theirs.

well, i'd like to keep the oscar and severums, especially since i'd be saving them from my friends smaller tank, i'm just wondering what my options are in terms of other fish

heh, and clairel you must've caught me before i editted, i'm working with gallons not liters

so would i be pushing my luck in adding something like a few firemouths or acara, and should i just call it done with the 2 severums and oscar?

or could i maybe add something else?

in a tank that size imo you wouldn't be pressing your luck at all. FM's, imo, wouldn't really do much more than flare the other fish to death just add alot of rock and bogwood to the tank the FMs would also make good dithers in there, another fish to consider adding as many cichlid keepers use them for dithers are silver dollars

how many would be a decent number to add?
what other cichlids would work well?

i haven't had much luck with silver dollars in the past, and around here its hard to get healthy ones too, so i probably won't be going for them

i had originally planned on making it a saltwater, but hten i did some research and the nearest place that sells saltwater fish basically only sells clowns, but i love this oscar and the severums, so i'm glad i didn't go that direction anyway

you could order much better fish, Jeff Rapps really isn't that far from you so it wouldn't that much for shipping.

i don't like mail order, as cool as most of those are

can I ask why not?

if its an issue of worring that the fish will all be dead or become sick I live in michigan on the wisconsin border and I have ordered 3 different fish from Jeff only one died and that was my fault. the other 2 are doing great and growing like weeds.

i'm not home enough where i'd be able to sign for them and take care of them, i'd have to take off from work or school just to get them,
but really half the fun for me is picking them out myself from the tank at the store and raising them

but enough about that, lets get back to what will get along with my 2 severums and oscar to fill out the tank and make it something special
