OMG
just been sorting out my black molly cos she having babies & just been checking tank for them & the corys are laying eggs as well.
think the corys wana get in on the baby action lol
trace
its cool just seen my cory collect her eggs & hold them in her fins never seen it before. only thing is now i wana move the eggs just not sure on best way to do it cos they on my filter
oh the deffinalty eggs, just seen the big cory catch in her bottom fins, in fact she got another batch in there now. hoping to move them into the fry tank i just set up so they will hopefully hatch this time. got at least 14 molly fry as well so going from 1 room to another checking mollies & cories lol
Actually corys are not possessive about their eggs- except in the way that mollies are possessive about their fry, as a nourishing snack!
The female will carry each new clutch around in her fins until she finds a place to deposite them- and then turn round and eat them. At least this is the case with peppered corys; I have been told other species are less voracious. But cichlids they are not.
I only saw one egg from the latest spawning and that was eaten before it hatched. I have heard that you can cut them off with a razor blade and syphon them out but haven't tried it. Easier of course to remove the adults.
Anyway, congratulations- it's all good fun isn't it?
only got the molly fry cos my greedy fish have eaten all the eggs oh well theres always next time. in fact think i will put the adult corys into a seperate tank then move them when they have spawned
its happened before but they usually last longer than a couple of hours. i will manage this, the molly fry don't know what to do with themselves cos they've got a 12gallon tank all to themselves at the moment lol
