i want one!!

tripletail.jpg

i wonder if Netty or Victoria can breed one? :shifty:

well, 3 tails is something, but each of its fins are a different size, it makes it look pretty deformed and IF people wanted to have 3 tailed line, it would take alot of work to make it look half decent. there are still alot of not so great looking doubletails on aquabid... im not sre how 3 tails will go over lol nice find though.

i think it is just a realy unique thing, not every lobe has to be te same!! look how beautiful it is!!

looks like a double tail with an added peice to the bottom lol the colors are pretty, but , in my opinion, only few double tails are really pretty enough to be beautiful , like the ones laurafrog bought, THAT was a nice doubletail, but most arnt that nice, and i think if people wanted to breed these... well, it would take alot time patience and LOTS of ugly fishto make it work. I donno, maybe im just too picky about fins on fish, but i dont really like how that fish looks!

I think he is really pretty & unusual, I really like the double tail (biased caused Mr Darcy is one)

Personally i don't think the fish looks very nice at all. I've only just come round to double tails, but that triple tail does look more like a deformity. Anyway each to their own, everyone has different preferences x

I'm curious about the genetics on this one... the DT gene is something called 'ventralisation'. So it basically makes the underside of the fish (including the anal fin) sprout on top of it. TBH that triple tail looks like a fluke, I don't think it's something that could be replicated. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the ventralisation has appeared twice, but that's pretty much impossible because the DT gene has to be homozygous to display at all.
Who bred it and what do they want for it? I'd be highly suspicious that this particular mutation occurred during embryonic development and is not actually present in the genetics, and that the breeder knows this, because if that line could be developed it would make the breeder an absolute killing.
