i have just noticed a platy fry, its hiding in a bush but im wondering how long till the platy has more because one fry is unusual for it to have
how long till she emptys the batch??

Thanks
Jodie

aww bless you..i remember my first batch i sat up all night with her making sure she was ok ( how silly eh?) i think it shouldnt take more than a few hours, well that my experience anyway, but there are some livebearers that can have them over a period of about 3 days,i wouldnt try to move the mum now as you may cause her to abort the fry, tho you could run out and get ( if u havent already got one) a breeding net,and catch the fry and put them in this in the tank that mum is in,or they maybe ok if you have plenty of plants in the tank for them to hide in,you can feed them very finely crushed flake or some liquifry or hatch some BBS, but i just used crushed flake and mine were fine.
when they are big enough not to fit in anyones mouth they can go back into the tank with mum
oh and congratulations Jodie :)
shelagh xxxx

Congrats Jodie M. New fry are always a fun thing to have. Like Shelaugh said, they will probably be born within a few hours of the start. Lots of good cover in the tank and well fed adults will make for better survival since the fry will be harder to find and the adults won't be motivated to search. If all that is in the tank are platies, you will see the fry swimming as if there was no danger in about a week or two. If there are angels, tetras, or similar fish, the fry will not be safe anywhere near that soon.

hay shela its not stupid if i catch them at the right time i sit up all night its such a joy to watch these are the little mites that i waited up till 2am in the morning to arrive but its worth it even tho i had to still get up at 7.30 with kids lol

congrats any way jodie you will be fine nanna lol

um i was going to draw a pic but i cant lol, its kinda a drop from the tail more than the others shall i put her in just in case?
Ill try to explain it, really fat at the front and it carrys on but lifts up a little, like a 2mm ubove (poo hole) then rejoins rest of body

SOz about the explaination
Jodie

haha lol. i would wait a couple more days and see how it is then. there is a pinned topic on it with images if you want to find it! however, if you really think it is ready to drop then by all means put her in. its your judgement! i thought about putting a platy in a breeding trap and that was 8 days ago. and she is still big! howa u anyway?

lol ill put her in in a few days, back to college -_- but my timetable is good so im happy!! but its getting a bit scary with unis n stuff
