i just filled mt 20 up today and i noticed foam.i added aquarium salt to try and start a quick cycle and got my filter running.

problem-i did the bucket trick and used my kitchen sink.could this be soap of foam from the salt

just some stupid crap a fs worker told me,but back on topic

Surely it is on topic????

If there is foam in the tank, empty it and start again I'd say. It's not hard to do, wont take that long, and could save you a lot of problems in the long run. Just drain water and add more over and over until you notice no more foam.

rinse it with tap water. If it where cycled then I'd say use tank water.

this filter is cycled.i doubled up tje filters on my 40 for a while.it one of the filters with ammonia sack on bottom, charcoal sack in the middle, and sponge on top.

if its just a little foam, then it could be water.. if you pour it in really fast it tend to foam.. otherwise id guess it was leftover soap from when u washed something

i just got done draining water.should i let it dry out and wash away residue

did you wash the gravel/sand thouroughly before putting it in the tank
i noticed sand makes foam at first as the smallest particles float.

also, don't put salt in the tank :p

If you overdose with Stress Coat and other similar types of dechlor sometimes it'll foam a bit when you're refilling a tank after a water change :dunno: Just a thought.

better to be safe than sorry is the correct answer for me.dont wanna risk it.
