I found the following post on another forum
I bought 5 redcap oranda's and added 4 of them to my 5 gallon tank (the other one was a gift for my nephew) and they all seemed fine, happily exploring their new crib then by that afternoon i noticed 2 of them swimming with their heads down towards the gravel and not really moving a whole lot. So I added a little bit of aquarium salt as I was told to by the aquarium shop where I got them from, but by the next morning they were both dead, but they weren't floating, they were still at the bottom of the tank head down. The other two seemed fine so I just removed the dead fish, replaced 50% of the water, conditioned it, let it cycle and then returned the 2 remainding ones to it. and they were very happy. Now 4 days later one more of the original 5 has died. It started exhibiting the same sinking behaviour and found him floating this morn. Is it just in the nature of the red cap to be sensitive and fragile and die easily or am I doing something wrong? I have kept Gold fish before with no problems at all and even back then i didn't condition the water at all. I've since bought 2 Black moors to replace the 2 red caps that died and they seem fine.
If anyone can think of any reason why these fish might keep dying please enlighten me so I can prevent it from happening again. They aren't that expencive to replace but i'd rather not have to do that if I don't have to.
Thanks in advance
I just can't belive that some people still have no idea about goldfish and thier needs.
BTW I repleyed telling them exactly what goldfish tank requirements are needed.
