Ok, I have finally cleared my spare tank of Malawi Fry, and fancied a change, so I bought 2 Kribs today. I have been assured that I have one of each sex, but I am not too sure  When I got them, one had a red belly and the other did not, but now they both have red bellies. How soon will I know if I have same sex or not???? Will their behaviour be a good indicator? I have put a flowerpot in for them, but they are both keeping their distance from each other at the moment.

I will to to get some pics of them if they ever come out of hiding

I await your expert replies.

The first is a male and the second is a female but she is not mature. Take her back and get one with a more rounded belly. If its belly is very round it will be a mature.

Silly question, but if I have 1 male and 1 female, why should I take the female back if she isnt quite mature??? I am more than happy to wait for her to grow up.

I think what kribensis12 means is that the female will be bullied if she isn't mature and the male is ready to mate.

Your female will be harrased and eventually murderd if she is not ready to mate and the male is. You could put her in a different tank but the best advice is to take her back and get a mature female( big round belly, purple to reddish in color and rounded fins. Not that hard to spot within a bunch of the more drab males)
