Old Fish Food

I have recently acquired some fish pellets that are around a year old, and I was wondering if feeding fish food this old will cause any kind of health problems for my fish?

Does it have any sort of expiry/sell by date. I should imagine, if it's within this date, theoretically, you should be ok. But if it's been sat around for a long time, I'd be very cautious, you never know if there is any contamination in there.
