ok, i posted a little while ago.
I have an overstocked tank (but have had these fish mostly for years). its the jewel 180l, so thats about 50 gal, just under i think?
I asked on here, and was advised on my high ammonia in this un cycled tank. I still have the same problem because of work i lagged on the changes for a couple of days. My ammonia is very dangerous high. my tank isnt cycled yet so i think this is going to be a veryyyy long process. But it seems like even making water changes isnt making too much of a difference.

I still have my old filter, although its been out of water for over a month, i was wondering if that might help? Or even if i wash it, will the small extra filtartion be of use? If so, should i use the small amount of old water thats left in the old tank, or use the water in the new tank to wash? or tap water.

Since advbised on here, ive been usng a water conditioner, and used ammo-lock (but couldnt give the full dose cause of stupid work). Also, ive been taking the carbon out to use the ammo-lock, is that necessary?

my angel fish has been rehoused, as he now has ammonia burns :( hope he makes it, but im doubtful. I feel so bad that ive put my fish through this when they were probably very happy in their old tank (that had probably been through many mini cycles etc cause i knew nothing, so was washing the filter stuff in tap water.)

It takes a filter time to develop bacteria to remove ammonia. So if you have a filter in a tank that is cycled you could put it on the new tank to speed things up. I'm not sure if your filter will still be completely cycled because of how long its been out of water. Adding water from a established tank to a new tank does help the process. If you have any other filter cartridges take out the one currently in use in your established tank and use it on the new tank, then put a new cartridge in the filter. That helps ALOT!

and should the older tank be ok with a new filter material? its my sisters tank and im pretty sure its been up for a year at least. But dont want to go spoiling hers to help mine.

what id do is take your filter, remove your sisters filter sponges from her filter and squeeze the cr  from your sisters into a container<never used chemicals in>then put in your sponges to soak up all this squeezed stuff :good:

if your sisters tank has more than one sponge and you have more than one sponge change one of yours for one of hers but making sure each filter has a old sponge from your sisters tank in each...as its the filter thats holds the bacteria and not the actual tank :good:

ok now ive confused you

if i didnt i confused meeee
