Despite moving to a nice new tank, my GT has wound my Oscar up enough that he is now retaliating and they have been fighting. She never gets hurt, it's always him. Not seriously, but it isn't pleasant watching them lip-locking and randomly chasing each other, that's not what I want to watch.

Now, I know the tank is open in the middle, we want to get some more wood, but I don't think this is going to solve the problem longterm. She has basically got to sexual maturity now and fights with her reflection if I turn all the lights off and just leave the tank lights on. Everyone else just swims around. Obviously my Oscar, at 5" is not fully grown, but he hasn't been mean to anyone else, just her.

Anyway, enough justifying myself  She's going to be rehomed :( If not on here, then I daresay the LFS will take her in. She will really show up the stunted one they have in there, poor thing.

So I am thinking of new ideas for who to go with an Oscar, Sev and a Birchir. I definitely want another Sev, possibly two. Maybe something like those Red Head Tapajos, if I can find any? Or another type of Geo.

I need something very colourful to replace her, so get your thinking caps on :)

i would have thought the behaviour described would be expected with a new set up? i would give the gt another week before considering anything

The trouble is we had them in my 190L (along with a Keyhole, a Ram, and for the last week the Sev and Birchir), but weren't able to watch them or see them everyday as they were at OH's parent's. They were there a month, and everytime we'd go and see them Boris would have scrapes, yet there were never any arguments in front of me.
I've had my GT since October 2008, and Boris since January this year, and they were coexisting in the 190l fine before then, while they were waiting for the larger tank.

Now they have more space, they are scrapping.

Maybe I should try the wood as a divider?

I haven't got any experience in keeping aggresive fish like these, but a good visual barrier with wood and/or stones could bring piece and harmony back to the bigger tank

Weird thing people noticed on MFK is that GT's seem to ignore lutino Oscars but always have a problem with Golds and Tigers, not sure why that is, but could be something to do with Oscars are pretty much Acaras, and the green colour more similar to the Green Terror than the white?

God knows lol.

Yeah I've heard that before. However I don't like Albinos/Lutino Oscars, so wasn't going to get one on the off chance of the GT ignoring him

I guess I'll try breaking up the visual field a little, and seeing if that helps. If not, she's going :(

Good luck, although I don't hold out much hope for your chances. Once a cichlid like a GT has got it's knickers in a twist about another fish it rarely changes it's mind IME. Worth a shot though as there's no bad damage being done as yet to your oscar.

From nelly's vassssst experience i would rehome the aggressor, does not mean it would do same to someone else, just took a dis liking to that perticular fish, Its a shame but thats cichlids,we can choose the fish but ultimatly the choose the tank mates.
My last aggressive fish which i still have owned my 5/2/2 and it was a bycron which were ment only to be aggressive'ish between there own, but it ruled the tank major,so i took it out, place it in with my chocolate cichlid, sat chewing nails all night just waiting for it to go for my placid choc, nothing, that was two months ago,odd how things go.

Ditto Nelly really. Not kept a GT myself but Bailey the Royal acara was a killer for Wills, however with me its a totally different fish, taken a bit of a dislike to the convicts, but they ask for it!!. Trouble is once a fish like that has claimed the tank its going to be hard going to try to make it get along with other fish.

True, pity because I never wanted a GT. I bought her as a Blue Acara... :(

After their display tonight, which included her actually shivering with aggression, plus liplocking, I don't think things will change.
