Still to think of an actual "substrate rooting" backing plant.

I was thinking Vallis or another similar tall grassy plant any ideas? Open to any new suggestions!

The Java Fern and Moss will be tied to the wood as you guys probably guess.

I am ordering from Java Plants... Have any of you guys used this site before?

And do you think that "2x25cm Clumps" of moss will be enough to get a nice coverage on the top of the wood branches?

Bare in mind there is going to be somewhere around 35-40 inches of wood in this tank and I want alot of it covered!

Also anyone used Ferka before its a total new brand to me but look at the results Beautiful !

And last but not least my insperation ...

Thanks alot

Sounds like this is going to be well worth watching. I am looking forward to seeing the Redmoor Wood. I am considering giving Ferka K a go myself.

For a tall grassy plant at the back, you could consider Eleocharis Vivipara.

Personally, I have never used Java Plants so I can`t comment.

Nice plan. That's some inspiration - 2nd place in last year's ADA contest and one of my favourite aquascapes of all time, even though it's not particularly innovative.

Your ferts sound good but you don't mention planned lighting or CO2. These should be considered before fertiliser choice.

You may wish to add lots of fast growers to start to help prevent inevitible early algae blooms. Starting out with just moss and ferns will likely results in disaster unless you are very clever with filter maturation, photoperiods and dosing.

I've no experience with Java Plants, any company that can't spell their plant names properly in adverts doesn't give me the best first impression. I understand that many are pleased with their service though. Greenline are another option, they stock a good range of plants and Andy Green is very helpful. Personally my favourite are Tropica pots, they're relatively expensive perhaps but their quality is second to none.

Consider the narrow variety of Java fern over the regular - Microsorium pteropus var. narrow. That's what you see in the first photo. I don't think Java Plants do it but Tropica will.

The plant in the background in the 1st photo is Vallisneria nana, also available from Tropica through Aqua Essentials. Cyperus helferi is also popular but its not the easiest plant as its slow growing and an algae magnet is less than ideal conditions. Both of these do best with good light and plenty of CO2.

All the best.

Should be good, I like your inspiration.

I would recommend ordering tropica plants, they offer a good range of high quality plants and may have more selection for what you're looking for, both Aqua essntials and Birstall have a great range of tropica plants and excelent service.

I would now insist on only buying plants from sellers who package them in boxes. I've had so many squished and damaged plants from those who send them in padded bags that the additional cost from these boxing sellers really is worthwhile. I have had outstanding plants from Greenline myself, two sets now, each boxed and the plants have been truely excellent and well sized for the relevant plant.

Thanks to all !

Well I will have round about 1.8 WPG not alot but thats why I have chosen Java moss and fern!

Also the big problem i am having is gettin the money for the c02 ...

My tank has been lying there on the floor in its box for close to 3months now :(

And my dad is sick of it sitting there doing nothing and to be honest so am I :)

I know moss and fern will be ok with no c02 addition ... I could always knock up a few DIY c02 unit i suppose if this will help at all ?

I will get pressurized c02 in the very near future the very latest will be August (Birthday) But there is a chance i could possibly
get it before then.

And yes i have tanks to mature the new external in before hand and yeah i suppose the Fern/Moss combo isnt too good for starters ?

Does any of this help at all guys ?

Please tell me what you think !

Thanks again

Richie
