How do I set up this skimmer model?
http://www.thelashop.com/catalog/Fish-Tank...-gph-p-525.html
It came with no instructions. I can make a video with me trying to test it out if that helps...

I got it 3 months ago and have been trying hard to get it to properly work, but it never bubbles enough to get the protein in the chamber or it bubbles too much and the whole thing overflows with water! Any help?!

OK, plumb it up as shown in the pictures. Keep the air valve and water inlet valve fully open for the minute, as with the water outlet valve. Next, connect it up, again as shown in the picture, with the plastic bit with the suckers on sitting on the rim of the tank, with the water line an inch, two at the most, below the rim :good: Turn on the pump and watch. You should see it start to foam in the chamber. Now, you need to play with the water outlet valve to set the line of the bubbles to be just at the base of the collection cup neck. If the bubbles are above that point with the outlet valve fully open, you'll have to turn the inlet down a bit to lower the bubble level :good:

With the outlet, you close the valve to raise the bubble line and open it to lower the line. Visa Versa is true with the outlet valve. You should use the outlet valve to regulate foam hight in where possible, keeping the inlet valve as open as possible.

Let the skimmer do it's thing and observe the skimmate. Your aiming for black tea coloured skimmate. If it's too watery, drop the foam line a little bit (say 1/8th on an inch). If it's too dark, raise the foam line by a similar amount. It will be a case of bit by bit adjustment

Look at the picture and do exactly the same

Keep the air valve and water inlet valve fully open for the minute, as with the water outlet valve.

turn any screw/turn type nobs you can find!

Next, connect it up, again as shown in the picture,

look at teh picture, it shows you where and how low it should sit in the tank

with the plastic bit with the suckers on sitting on the rim of the tank,

You see those black suckers, well stick them on the rim of the tank

with the water line an inch, two at the most, below the rim :good:

so the water needs to be about an inch below the rim of the skimmer

Turn on the pump and watch.

switch on power and stand well back!

You should see it start to foam in the chamber.

Lots of small white bubbles in the skimmer

Now, you need to play with the water outlet valve to set the line of the bubbles to be just at the base of the collection cup neck.

fiddle with the valve so that you get the bubbles just at the base of the collection cup

If the bubbles are above that point with the outlet valve fully open, you'll have to turn the inlet down a bit to lower the bubble level :good:

If the bubbles go too high, just fiddle some more!!

With the outlet, you close the valve to raise the bubble line and open it to lower the line.

close to raise bubbles line

Visa Versa is true with the outlet valve.

Open to get good foam, as wide as possible, if foam stops, close a little

You should use the outlet valve to regulate foam hight in where possible, keeping the inlet valve as open as possible.

open wide

Let the skimmer do it's thing and observe the skimmate.

Stand back and watch

Your aiming for black tea coloured skimmate.

Anything that the girlfriend or wife goes yuck at, is probably good

If it's too watery, drop the foam line a little bit (say 1/8th on an inch).

if its too watery it will end up overflowing, yuck

If it's too dark, raise the foam line by a similar amount. It will be a case of bit by bit adjustment

if it's too dry.......................... think you probably get the idea by now
