Oily Surface All Of A Sudden

Tanks clear, fish are getting ok fine, water tests are ok

But iv got an oily substance on the surface

Anyone know what it is or how to get rid?

Protein film....surface agitation should keep it at bay. You can try dragging paper towel over the surface to remove it at the moment.

If you feed meaty or oily foods it causes it, sometimes a change of food can help.

How exactly does it work?

It attaches inline to the external filters inlet pipe and sits at the waters surface where it 'skims' the surface of the water sending it down to the filter.
