How long ago did PetSmart get them in, how did they acclimate/quar them? If they were caught, shipped, tossed in a tank, then had the same treatment in a short time period it could be stress. PetSmart uses a large central filtration system, if there was anything contagous in any of the other tanks it could have been passed on to the neons.

I once lost 3 tiger barbs within 12 hours of getting them, and they were from petsmart. Turns out they day I got them petmart also just got them in. The stress of both journeys probably did them in.
