My regal has got ich!!

It is eating and not affected but he's rubbing rocks!1

anyone know where I can get no more ich?

been dosing with mela fix but isnt helping that much!

I can't help with the ich med finding part, but Melafix will have no effect on ich since it's only a mild antibiotic for certain bacteria/fungi and ich is a protozoan (IME they are unaffected).

Look up Hyposalinity. One of the best ich treatments for tangs. Make sure you feed nutricious foods, with something like garlic xtreme. It should help with their immune system. Good luck.

Anyone know why my two cleaner shrimp would back up and swim away whenever my tang trys to get cleaned?

I think I gonna try the hypo-salinity in a QT tank too help but I going on holiday tuesday!!

What a time to have ICH

i think (note the think part) that cleaner shrimps arent crazy about eating ich since many scientist have not found ich cells in there digestive tracts in the wild. It was said in RC's Common Misconceptions in the Hobby.

So then what DO the cleaner shrimp eat?

How's the tang doing?

Cleaner shrimp do so eat ich; in fact I credit the halt of an ich epidemic to them (the fish had terrible ich until the shrimp were introduced). They are also well known to clean large morays in the wild which would normally inhale shrimp, though admittedly they are not necessarily eating ich; this parasite is remarkably rare in the wild, as far as I am aware. An aquarium is the perfect setting for it, which is why we see it so often.

My old cleaner shrimp used to clean my goby against his will... the result was usually a dusty tank as the goby flung sand.

Ah well... good thing I hate reef central.

I had 3 skunk cleaners and a fireshrimp when my tangs contracted ich. The skunk cleaners always backed away from the tangs too. The fireshrimp was always in demand. The tangs actively sought him out and he did do a good job. Whether or not it was because he was larger than the skunks or what... I couldn't say, but mine definitely preferred the fireshrimp for cleaning.

Hes a little better tonight, I have turned temp up slightly to 28 - 29 and also I have turned skimmer up to skim more quickly, having to empty daily now.

But he seems better tonight?

cheers for input tho guys

good luck with it all!! 28-29 i had mine on during whitespot epedemic and fed lots of garlic food, also i want to try Spirulina since its seems to be talked about alot, and all come enriched in brine!!

o and enjoy your holiday when you get back pop in to sanders there hopefully be a few changes for the better =) im trying to get some input woo.

Haha, that last part made me laugh. My Skunks tend to sit on a rock all day, but when the lights go out, they dart around the tank and usually jump all over my clownfish and clean them against their will.

Pengy you said you raised the temperature in the tank but, where is the tang? Is he still in the main tank or in a QT? If he's still in the display tank, raising the water temperature will only increase the life cycle and therefore the likelihood of reinfection. If he's in the QT then its fine to raise the temps in both display and QT, provided the water in the QT is medicated or is in hyposalinity.
