This morning he did not come out of his hiding place to feed.....very strange!
This evening he was out and trying to feed but was very skittish.....then I saw a red mark on his mouth. It may be a cut as I cannot see any growth (like on my, now dead, Gourami last month) He is not very happy, hiding and darting around and generally p****d off!
Just done a stats check....Amm 0. NitrIte 0. NitrAte 40. (water change due tomorrow)
Here are the best pics I can get.....what do you think?

Are there any rocks or sharp things he might have been trying to clean but scratched himself instead?

All rocks and wood are smooth (fake) . He has been in there since he was half inch long and there is nothing new in there since he was introduced. He does belt around sometimes especially at feeding time so hopefully its just a bump. we'll see if there is anyone who has come accross this before and treatment used. Thanks for the thought :good:

Could of damaged his mouth on something in the tank like been mentioned.
Does the red part of the mouth look like broken skin.

not really, I can only see what you see. If it is a knock what's the best course of action?

Kind of a long shot, but have you ever seen any evidence of him having even a nibble at your plants? I know that the non-aquatic Dracaena you have in there is supposed to be poisonous to animals (and us for that matter) that eat it, but I've never heard of any fish eating it so I dunno. It could be that he tried to have a nibble at a broken leave or something?

I would add some melafix for now to see how he goes.
Good luck.

Yes, I have had a comment that the plant is non aquatic but not according to the label in the LFS. Dracaena sanderiana Red from Guatamala from www.aqufleur.com.
Check this link http://www.aquafleur.com/site_nl/aquafleur...tails&id=42 If it is NOT aquatic and is poisonous I shall take the shop to task over it
What you are suggesting sounds credible as darting around irratically is a sign of poison........my ottos are on the plant just about all the time, algae munching, without problem

Don't know why I have not got any of that stuff in yet!!!!! Will deffo get some tomorrow but not till the evening unfortunately .....thanks for the kick
