Oh No Fish Delivery Disaster!

reason number 2 to post slugs...

make your own ooze kit containing 10 slugs and a bag of salt

lol Ian, also about the posting fish part think of how many dead fish the lfs recieve.......

you got any pet slugs ian, you seem to know alot about what to do with them lol.

:good:

i didnt say it never worked, i jus sed that i didnt think it was a good idea becuase its EXTRA stress on the fish.

like you say they have already flown on a plane.

since that they would of been unpacked and caught again.

then you wanna send em through the normal post.

jus dont think its a great idea.

I totally agree that stress should be minimised where possible and feasible - but many people live in places where many fish aren't availalbe - or just have your standard little live bearers etc.
Which then leaves no option - especially if you don't have your own car to drive several hours and find that "perfect shop" with all the fish your heart desires.

not normal post no no no special delivery they take better care of those packages because very expensive things go through there

Ohh causing a debate here!! Well the fish in trimar had all been bred by Trimar. They are one of the few shops i've been to where they successfully breed their fish. I've ordered from them before and they use a specialist courier and the fish were fine and well packed. They seem well packed this time but the box must have been bumped by something. So its was gutting but i don't think it will put me off ordering again if theres something i really want. Unfortuneately i live at the ends of nowhere and even though we have some very good fish shops around they only supply bog standard fish.
I've rang around and a shop about 40 miles away has endlers so i've reserved 4 to pick up saturday and will drive around some of the other fish shops up that way to cheer myself up!! on a side note my 9 pygmy cories are alive and happy after their interesting journey.

Sorry for your loss. I had some endlers dead on arrival too and it did seem particularly sad because they are so little and pretty :( I also had 3 lots of endlers delivered who arrived perfectly well and are breeding like mad now.
I've had a few bettas through the post before now too and they are still alive and well long after the shop bought one has passed.
I think posting is fine as long as the fish are well packed and sent by courier or special delivery.

I sincerely doubt a single box would be rattling & sliding around a delivery truck and thrown from post to pillar.

Yeah, right! And it will get chucked into the depot over night (if not the weekend)

Um, they try and make sure it's there the next day but thats the only difference.

I doubt it :p Quite a bit of their stock is "wild" which means it has been transported from another country to which they are native.

See their own website where it states"AS WE BUY FROM SEVERAL SOURCES".

If that was true, they'd all be dead.

I think, if you feel fish delivery is bad, you should stop buying fish since theyre delivered in the same way at your lfs.

Absolutely right breezer. Many of the catfish they sell are actually wild caught and straight from South America or whereever in the world.

I actually talked to monty himself and the pygmies are all bred there, as they are relatively easy to breed and the endlers were bred in shop as well. But i do understand that a lot of their rarer fish such as l number plecs are wild caught.
I've actually visited their shop in the past - and its fantastic! they have some amazing fish and they are well looked after. Was particulary impressed with their specific tanks for killifish breeding and they had an impressive saltwater show tank with seahorses and pipefish.

But wild caught V tank bred thats a whole argument for another thread.

The fish that survived the journey are all well sized, healthy and have settled in well. And i'll be picking up my new endlers tommorrow and probably some plants while i'm at it.
