Or weren't suppose to be, they didn't look pregnant and no gravid spot.

I've put my single baby in a fry net, its so tiny and so cute. I'll feed baby brine shrimp and crushed flake, if thats correct, i need to look up raising baby ;)

If i'd seen a pregnant female i'd of put her in a fry net to give birth. I have just bought a new second tank too, but i was hoping i wasn't expecting babies for a few weeks till the new tank had cycled.

Any advice glady recieved.

I'll just let you know, Livebearers NEVER have fry when you want them too. So what she did was normal. :p

Okay...soo...feeding.

Fry grow best when given a variety of foods…so alternating new things in is good. What I usually do, with my fry, is start them off for the first few weeks on Hikari First Bites, or Tetramin Fry food. If you don’t want to do this, you can use VERY finely crushed flakes. Or live Baby Brine Shrimp. As they grow, you can continue feeding the flakes (Or add them in, if you were using Fry food) and suppliment in Live/Frozen/Freeze-dried Brine Shrimp, Tubifex Worms etc. Whatever you do, though, don’t just feed them Live, Frozen, or Freeze dried foods. Too many of these can cause constipation, bloating, and bad water quality. A safe schedule would be every other day, give these foods for 1-2 meals.

It's actually good you didn't put the female in the fry net, because that can sometimes stress them out and cause them to abort. Not to mention, make it easy for her to eat her fry.

But anyway, congrats! It's so exciting, isn't it? :hyper:

Thankyou for the reply Annastasia :flowers:

Babies of all shapes and sizes are always exciting, i've bred a foal before thats a bit bigger and i could see it ;) :D

I missed which female platy gave birth, none of them looked pregnant as none were bloated. All the females i have are half the size of my males.

I only have 1 single fry will it survive on its own in the fry net, its hard to feed a lone fry, should i put a few of my baby ramshorn snails in the fry net to eat any uneaten food. I can't see any more fry but i have java moss and riccia, but my queen loaches are always searching that.

You're very welcome! :D

Foals are exciting too, but as you mentioned, you can definitely see them and hopefully it's mother will take care of it rather then try to eat it! :p

Sometimes females will only have a few fry, and not get very fat if they are young. It sounds like that may have happened with your's, as females are usually the same size or slightly bigger then males. :)

It is hard to feed a lone fry. You need to give VERY tiny amounts. Like half a Bloodworm crushed into teensy weensy pieces. You wouldn't believe how small their stomachs are. Putting plants in with them is a good idea too, because little planaria grow and plants, and the fry will eat the Planaria.

I'm not very familiar with Ramshorn snails, but as long as they aren't very big, and not aggressive at all (Snails being aggressive give me a funny mental image, but anyway...) it should be just fine with the fry. I'd just a put a few in though.

Edit: And for future convienence, you might want to keep your fry tank filter(s) running in another tank, just so you can stick it in and go next time you have fry.

I have managed to net another one, so there is now two in my fry net. :D

I've seen a couple more in the riccia and under my bogwood, i just haven't been able to net them though, they'll have to take their chances for now, the real danger seems to be my queen loaches as they search every where.

The ramshorn snails are tiny not much bigger than the fry.

I've got a range of live foods but i also keep frozen, so i'll crush a frozen blood worm.

And thankyou again ;)

Yay yay yay, congrats! :D

Yes, Loaches + Fry = Snack for Loaches. If you can net them, that's good, otherwise they will have to fend for themselves I guess. You'll always have more next month, as cruel and mean as that sounds. :X

And the snails should be fine then. :)
