Office Betta

Okay, so I have finally settled back into my office from being away from it for 8 months, and now I am re decorating, the lawyer here (my boss) told me I can do as I please, and I intend to do just that.

I have decided to get an Office Betta, I can put the 5 gallon Hex tank on the side of my desk (i am surrounded by my desk) and I already know how to set it all up, my question, is a 5gallon tank will b far too heavy to take home and back every weekend. So what do I do about feeding him? Obviously for logner times away I will make arrangements to bring him home, but every weekend seems a little much.

I have heard that there are tablets for weekend feeding, however, I also heard that the fish can eat the whole thing in one day, and if they don't eat it all, it makes the tank very messy.

Has anyone ever done the office betta? And does anyone have any suggestions as to weekend feeding?

You should try and invest in an automatic feeder, it would work great for weekends and holidays.
Also if your going for bettas go for a nice crowntail!

Don't bother with the feeding blocks. They'll muck up your water and probably do more harm than good.

Your betta will be fine without any food for the weekend For long weekends, vacations and such, you can bring him home in a smaller container and set him up in a larger container at home.

id go with the auto matic feeder, that way he can be left for long weekends ect without too much fuss

Just feed it normally through the week including the last day you are there, if you overfeed it could foul the water and then its left sitting in it all weekend. It will be quite alright being left the 2 days over the weekend

How long can you keep a betta for without food???

Yes, a week is fine. I went away on holiday last year and left my adults without and everyone was fine and dandy, just very pleased to see me and the food when I got back

Fattening it up before the weekend is a good idea just to be safe.. thursday and friday feed it more then normal, and it should be fine for the weekend.

So its okay for a week?
just cos im going ireland soon and it would be easier than takeing him to someones house...
also with an automatic feeder you cant use frozen foods like bloodworms... my boy wont eat betta flakes, ive tryed many times, with no luck.,.,

It wouldn't foul the water enough to cause any problems.

My bettas have gone without food for as long as 14 days without showing even a sign of slimming down.

I fed them normally before I left, but the day I was going to leave, I did a water change and added IAL and a pinch fo salt.

If you're leaving the fish alone for a long time, without having someone to care for him, it's more important to be sure the water is clean than the fish is fed.

There are bettas that have gone for a literal month without food and been alright. There's one person on this very forum, whose betta was lost in the mail and arrived alright, but arrived peevish and a little thin.

2 days without food is nothing. My betta laughs in the face of 2 days.
