Well, you can do anything with a great imagination and a bit of creativity - if you can manage to find a rock in the shape you want you can stick the line of red gravel to the side of it using aquarium silicone.
Remember though, that unless you use something to separate the different colours of gravel substrate, they could get mixed up during gravel vacs (or moved around by cichlids if you keep them). When I did the river theme, I used lots of different rocks/pebbles to create a rocky bank either side of the river, to prevent the blue gravel mixing with the natural gravel and sand. Then I put various plants along the river route to look like trees...remember that if you look at a landscape painting, trees in the background appear smaller than those in the foreground (so opposite to the usual rule of taller plants at the back). I did put a lot of thought into the design of it all - but at the end I just looked at it and thought...noooo, that's not the look I want after all LOL
My b/f was a bit annoyed that I changed it cos he actually liked it like that LOL
