Hello everyone. I was just looking at my 55 gallon tank which houses 8 tiger barbs. They are pretty large, I would say 2 1/2 inches or so long and I bought them as 'medium' tiger barbs (or so the sign said at the LFS). Anyways, this is my first experience with tiger barbs, but I have had tinfoil barbs before, and so I am wondering why many of these tiger barbs 'hang' in the water with their tails to the top of the tank and almost as if they are trying to look down on the bottom of the tank. At first I thought there might be a problem, but they all seem to do it and it is not all the time, just occasionally.

Is this odd behavior or is it normal for this type of fish?

P.S. They all appear to be healthy and only one of them has a torn dorsal fin, but other than that, I could not say they are anything but normal.

acctully i have no idiea but i used to have tiger barbs and for a good long time too. but not once did i ever see them do that. i dunno i would keep a good close eye on them.

Actually its perfectly normal for them to do it, especially at night. The ones in my brothers tank always do it, they used to be in mine and did it aswell.

I will keep my eye on them. It is hard for me because I have only had these fish for about a week and a half, but I think this has been going on since I bought them. I was actually sort of shocked to see them because I had never seen them so large and they look alot different now than when they are little. I have had tinfoil barbs in the past and they were sort of 'round' and these are just like that also. They do school very nicely right now and I have not noticed any nipping as of yet. This tank also has 4 clown loaches and they all hang out together. It makes the tank nice and 'busy' and I could stare at it forever.

If I get the chance, I will try to get a picture of what I am talking about. It is a challenge though because the fish are scared of the blinking red light on my camera!

Thanks for the input!
