Well my heavily pregnant platys both have red, bloodish type marks around their head. Is this a normal part of their pregnancy, what should i do PLEASE HELP. ARE THEY CLOSE TO RELEASING THE FRY?
What are your water stats? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH)? How long has the tank been set up for, what, if any, chemicals have you added to the tank?
I would recommend a water change, and get your water tested, seem strange that two platys have the same mark in the same place, could be the male then.
i was thinking septicemia but with two fish having it wasn't sure, can you tell us about the other fish, if a fish has septicemia it can release the bacteria into the tank.
Household salt is fine in small doses.
I was also thinking septcemia was a possiblity, but at this point would still be hesitant to say it is not a result of bullying either. Do you have a hospital tank you can isolate them into?
no i dont, im just gonna put 2 small tablespoons of salt. What is this helping though. Also I have a tank coming soon from my cousin, but it was going to be for the baby fry.
Salt acts like a general tonic. The usual dose is 1 tablespoon for 5 gallons, so you can actually add up to 12 tablespoons in your 60 gallon tank. Ideally, you should isolate sick fish to keep the illness from spreading around the tank, as well as help cut down on the cost of medicine.
