Hi..I have a well established healthy tank for the past 6 months. I just recently came back from a trip to the Dominican Republic. I collected some very pretty rocks,,maybe coral. White and pink/ smooth. I also got a few small shells. Are these safe for my freshwater aquarium? I thought I would boil them first to remove any germs..but, I don't want to add them if there could be a problem. Any thoughts?? Thanks so much, Elaine

boil them, soak them in water for a while (a week maybe changing the water every two days) and then do a vinager test, drop a drop ov vinager on them and if it bubbles then they arnt safe, can anyone second that becasue im not sure about that....?

I believe vinegar only determines whether a rock is limestone, which will raise pH. Even if the vinegar fizzles, it does not mean the rock isn't safe, it just means the pH level will rise in the tank. :)
