PetSmart just got in some new cichlids that are just labeled obliquidens cichlid. The picture card hasn't come in yet so I don't have the species name or max length. I really LOVE the look of these guys and two of them have kind of paired off. The male has a gorgeous red belly with more of a pale yellowish body. Females are of course drabber but still good looking. The cichlid guy there just got transferred out of that department(too much time getting into in-depth discussions) otherwise I could have it IDed with no problem. I'm mostly trying to find out how big they get to see if I could get a few. They don't look like the Zebra obliquidens. I've looked lots on the internet and still can't ID them.

Now that I've looked more at pics of the Zebra obliquidens I think that's what they are. The male with nice color that I wanted was bought along with three females so the only one left is a fairly dull(stressed?) male. I have them looking out for another nice male though and depending on who's there when the shipment comes in they might pull him to our bully/bullied tank in back if it's empty. That way he doesn't get bought but he isn't exposed to sick fish. There's some advantages to being an employee who used to work in that department. ;) I plan to keep a single male and I have a few goldfish in the tank along with some mature media so it should be pretty close to done cycling by the time I get him. It's only a 10 gallon but I have a friend who's going to give me a 20 gallon long in a few weeks.

theyre more likely Astatotilapia Brownae
ive seen them sold as burtoni's, Obliquidens, thick lips the lot.
google it XD

That's it! Thanks a bunch. It was driving me crazy since it didn't quite look like the zebra oliquidens and I didn't want to end up with a 12" fish because of a mis-id. It's more likely a hybrid given that it's at PetSmart but that pic matches exactly.
